One of these sounds human. The other sounds like a compliance document.

3. Boundary Rules (The Limits)

This is explicitly telling the bot when to give up and hand off to a human. You configure this with rules like:

  • If the customer asks about pricing changes or refunds → human
  • If the customer is clearly frustrated (swearing, all caps, "this is ridiculous") → human
  • If the bot gives the same answer twice and the customer rephrases → human
  • If the question involves account-specific data it can't access → human
